The Secret Garden Cafe, Occoquan VA

It felt like we had been travelling for many moons. Since our transportation into this timeline, my dear friend and I had failed to find a moment of rest. The loud whirring of large metal animals surrounded us at every corner. Their large yellow eyes would glare at us angrily in the night. People in this time seemed to use these beasts to avoid sleep. Even climbing into the creatures mouths to keep going.

At this point I wondered why the Gods sent us here. How could coming to the future possibly help them on their mission? This land was so peculiar, loud, chaotic and grey compared to Greece. I missed sitting under the olive branches waiting for the star showers under the moon. I dont think my feet could bare this hot hard surface they stomped over. They longed for grass once more, this strange elongated rock made them throb and sweat. My head joining alongside them from the constant movement of the people. It ached being here.

“Hey, over there! Look.” My companion calls out.

I look up to see a hidden staircase between two buildings. Above a sign with transcribings. What I assume is this places language.

“Let’s go!” She says pulling me up the stairs.

As she pulls me across the threshold I realize this area is quite pretty. There’s a beautiful fountain straight ahead. You can hear the soothing trickle as the water runs through its cycle. To the right you see a wall of ivy; finally a piece of nature in a land of rock and metal.

These dryads come out to greet us. Warm welcoming smiles they guide us to a place to sit. They offer food and beverage, the first we’ve had in a while.

I must admit everything offered certainly was delicious. This country at least knows how to eat. Perhaps there is some good in a land of cement.
